Save the date Oct 18-21 Art San Diego!! Feeling ambitious with back to back art fairs but the call to follow dreams is strong….
Hope this New Year finds all of you happy, healthy and ready to get after some dreams this year! I have been on a month long break from painting as a dream comes true in the form of a remodeled studio for me!! A few more weeks to go before I can get back to work but I know it will be worth the wait!! What dreams are you chasing this year?
HAPPIEST NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!!
This week needed some balm for the soul… so I worked on my spirit guides and guardian angel series. Collaging with the Japanese papers allows these beings to organically evolve and the moment they make themselves known to me is pure magic.
as cliche as it sounds, artists draw from life to inspire their work… In my case I draw from the joyful energy that has filled our home this Summer. With an ever happy and playful 4 year old and a hubby with big projects happening at work I can’t help but draw from all this movement, energy, fun and positivity and put it onto the canvas. I am so thankful for all these blessings, which I hope to give back to the world through this work…

Finding a voice. The ever changing challenge an artist is faced with. It’s such fun to play and experiment and be free when creating the work, but a cohesive body of work is necessary to take things to the “next” level so to speak. I’ve struggled for quite some time with this, but came across a quote from artists Jerry Mcloughlin and Rebecca Crowell’s new Cold Wax Medium Book (AMAZING BTW) that has become my mantra when in the studio… “Does it Feel like Me”? I may like what I’ve created and even find it beautiful but for it to be honest it has to feel like me. Was the process in getting there one that felt natural to my creative process? Was I being honest with what feelings and emotions I wanted the work to reflect? For better or for worse does the piece sitting on the easel feel like a reflection of myself? Ask yourself these questions and you will find the work coming together in ways you’ve never dreamed.
Thrilled to announce new gallery representation at The Rumjahn Gallery in Evansville, Indiana. They have a selection of my Chiyogami Series, Encaustics and Figuratives. If you are in the area please give them and their beautiful gallery a visit. For those in the Chicago area, Atkinson Collection Gallery continues to represent my Encaustic works….
…with all this good news, the work in the studio is growing leaps and bounds. Not sure what the exact catalyst was but the work is evolving in ways I never imagined. Guess I’m growing up a bit 😉
Many goals were set at the start of the year and in reaching for the stars my practice has attained new heights of which I had yet only dreamed. With no fear of failure (yet experiencing it very often!) I put my work out into the world and have seen the return with acceptance into 2 juried encaustic shows (Thank you Conrad Wilde Gallery & IEA!), inclusion in 3 group shows, sales and commissions all the way from Dubai, London and France to locally here in Los Angeles. These small wins make the countless losses all worth while. For any who have a dream, cast your net wide and high and you WILL catch something good. Let’s see what the rest of 2017 has to offer!
2017 has me brimming with new ideas and happy to be creating. My goal for the year is to be more disciplined in working in a series and to participate in more shows… engaging my work in more events off the internet and out in the real world. I Hope all of you are enjoying the beginnings of a new year 🙂
As another year draws to a close I reminisce on some favorite pieces and all the new experiences my artwork has allowed for me. 2016 was a year filled with new opportunities for my practice and I am ever grateful for all of it. I send that gratitude out to all who have helped make it happen and carry a full heart into 2017!! The best and happiest of new years to you all!!
