Channeling Emotions

as cliche as it sounds, artists draw from life to inspire their work… In my case I draw from the joyful energy that has filled our home this Summer. With an ever happy and playful 4 year old and a hubby with big projects happening at work I can’t help but draw from all this movement, energy, fun and positivity and put it onto the canvas. I am so thankful for all these blessings, which I hope to give back to the world through this work…

Through the heat of Summer these blues have kept me cool in the studio. Working larger and experimenting with ways to simply get paint onto the surface, moving it from here to there, this series grows. If you are local to Southern California you can see the first two pieces at OC Contemporary Gallery in San Clemente 🙂

How busy I have been!!! Working large, exploring and just discovering! Stepping out of my comfort zone and putting the work out there into juried competitions, festivals, and gallery submissions. So far the results have been a mixed bag of being completely ignored and winning some awards. I’m ready to take the many losses needed for the few hard won wins!

Hitting a Groove

I have found a happy groove working with the wax …Some pieces are on wax coated with shiny metallic pigments that add the sense of magic and otherworld-ness I look for in my work 🙂 Happy to be painting!

Finding a Voice

After a Summer and Fall of playing and experimenting with wax and the variety of mediums it is compatible with, I feel I may have finally found the vehicles to work with wax in a way honest to my creative way and artistic self. These are the results I am hoping to carry further into 2016. So happy to have this sense of direction with my encaustic practice as we close out another year 🙂

Just can’t get enough of the whole melting wax and oil paint together. To feed the addiction I bought a new fancy  encaustic griddle which makes everything a million times easier… like my dad always said “any job is easier if you have the right tools”… such wisdom!
